Chinatown Project
The Chinatown Project (WIP) is shot on 35mm film and documents the culture and resilience of Chinatown. The history of Chinatowns across this country is deeply rooted in racism and despite efforts to ban Chinese immigration, scapegoat Chinese workers, and commit violence against Chinese people, the Chinese community has been able to ban together heir resources and survive through decades of segregation. And while there remain many issues affecting Chinatown, the neighborhood is being sold as a commodity to tourists. Chinatown is more than an oriental spectacle: Chinatowns in many cities are feeling the immense pressure of gentrification and displacement (much like other immigrant communities and communities of color). This project seeks to preserve the legacy of New York City's Chinatown.
